Frank Garvey, President of Garvey Builders Inc., announced today that his
company had acquired the J. Lomas & Nettleton building at 201 Main at the
corner of Main and Franklin. The eight story, 160, 199 square foot building
was acquired from Harris County. The closing for the transaction took place
at 10:00 a.m. today at the offices of Chicago Title. Plans for the building
include a multi-purpose redevelopment of this prime landmark downtown building
in Houston into residential lofts, a ground floor restaurant and retail space.

Garvey Builders Inc.
The chief architect for the project is Kurt Aichler of Aichler & Associates.
Construction on the Franklin lofts will begin in the Summer of 1999. The Lomas
& Nettleton building was originally designed by Sanguinet & Staats architects
from Ft. Worth in the Neo-Classical style. The original building was enlarged
on two occasions in 1909 and 1925.
Garvey Builders, Inc. was founded in 1975. Frank Garvey has been a developer
and builder in Houston since 1980. His primary focus has been in the area
of apartment and commercial construction. Mr. Garvey has been active in the
renewal of the Houston Heights. His company has been responsible for the Heights
Colony apartments and The Yale Street Lofts. The Yale Street Lofts were nominated
in 1998 for Project of the Year by the Heights Association.
Garvey has had other collaborations with architect Kurt Aichler including
the design of the Jackson Hill Townhomes which are located northwest of Waugh
at Memorial.
